Drow Mercenary w/ Custom Scimitars

Here is a commission I did for a client that was making a drow character that was inspired by RA Salvatore's Drizzt Do'Urden.

The original swords of this model were pretty flimsy and thin so my client wanted scimitars instead. I sculpted them from scratch using milliput with a bit of wire from a twist tie as a frame for stability.

My first attempt in sculpting them failed because I didn't get a good enough coverage around the wire and so when I shaved down the milliput it crumbled apart. It was tricky to balance the thinness of the blades with making sure it was strong enough to not break. I tried to sculpt two unique blades to add to the visual interest.

Green stuff could have been a better solution here but I liked the milliput because I could sand each facet of the blade and get that sharp edge which really assisted during painting.

Really proud of my NMM on this one and I think focusing on glazing while varying the length of the secondary reflections assisted in producing the final result.

He envisioned this character as a mercenary for the Bregan D'aerthe band so I freehanded one of their symbols on his cloth. I was going to do it in the center of the cape but I thought putting it on the side was a little less flashy and I liked the asymmetry.
